The Ann Arbor Christian School board and committee members are a vital part of our parent-sponsored school. They partner with teachers and staff to ensure that the school is following its vision and mission. There are six standing committees, and other committees that work on specific
projects, like fundraising or capital campaigns.
The Building and Grounds Committee oversees the maintenance of the school property.
The committee organizes monthly parent work days, provides simple building maintenance, and negotiates service contracts with external suppliers. Dan Herrema, chair
The Development Committee works with the school's development coordinator to ensure the school's long-term financial strength and viability.
Tasks include encouraging and directing charitable support of the school,
managing capital campaigns, developing new revenue sources, and communicating needs to the school's support base. Sue Postema Scheeres, chair
The Education Committee serves as a voice for families, and a resource and
sounding board for teachers and staff. It also raises and researches education-related matters,
and makes recommendations to the board. The committee considers all the school's educational programs, practices, and policies. Karen Eekhoff, chair
The Finance Committee oversees money matters at AACS, including budgeting,
operational and capital spending, and cash flow, as well as debt and investment management.
The school board treasurer serves on this committee and keeps the board apprised of the committee's actions and recommendations. Bill Vander Meulen, chair
The Public Relations Committee works with the principal, teachers, board, and
parents to promote the school. Committee members maintain the school's website, place ads
in various area magazines and newspapers, and publish The Beacon newsletter three times a year.
The Technology Committee supports and enables the use of technology at AACS.
With significant input from teachers and staff, members help provide solutions to their needs and
looks for areas where technology can help. Specifically, the committee supports the many computers in the school,
Internet access, local networking, online report-card entry, phone and sound systems, among other things. Darren DeZeeuw, chair
